Join Now

Membership in the R19 Class Association is just $35 and is essential to supporting and maintaining the Class.  If you haven't joined through your local fleet please take the opportunity to join now.  The Class will contact you within a day or two to confirm your membership.


Thanks for visiting the Rhodes 19 Class Association Website. Our mission is to promote Rhodes 19 racing by encouraging and supporting local fleet development nationally, and by working to maintain the one-design integrity of the boat. Our class is currently comprised of 15 active fleets located in the northeast, gulf coast and great lakes, and we’re always on the lookout for folks interested in joining us. If there is not an established fleet near by, we’re pleased to work with individuals to help them get new fleets started.

The R19 is a unique boat, as well suited to an evening sail as it is to competitive one-design racing. The boat is very stable and perfect for family racing. Husbands and wives, fathers and sons, brothers and sisters, and granddads and grandchildren are just a few of the family combinations that have crossed our starting lines this year.

If you would like to learn more about the boat, about any of the fleets or about the class association, this web site has a wealth of information and links. Our fleets and fleet locations are listed in this site, along with the fleet captains' names. Please feel free to contact our Class President, Steve Uhl, at R19 Class Association.

2012 Nationals Completed

The Rhodes 19 Nationals 2012 are now complete!  Congratulations to Ben Richardson and crew who won with a great performance over nine races held at New Bedford Yacht Club.  Ben held off a very tough competitive fleet, including several previous National Champions as well as newcomer Frank McNamara who sailed a great regatta to place second.

Many thanks to New Bedford Yacht Club and Fleet 9 for hosting an outstanding event.  Fleet Captain Tom Moniz as well as event organizers Geoff Marshall and Ray Hunt and PRO Mary Ellen DeFrias and all the other volunteers organized an outstanding regatta - once again.  Many thanks to all who helped put it together.

Tom Despres was recognized for his three year term as Class President by being awarded the President's Trophy.  This trophy is but a small acknowledgment of the time and dedication that Tom put into support of the class.

On the practice day Jud Smith of Doyle Sails took many pictures of the fleet tuning up and provided much useful advise after racing.  We appreciate Jud's devotion to support the Class (and hope he'll be back at a future nationals as a competitor).  A link to the photos will be posted shortly on the National Class site

Lastly - the Class voted to award the 2013 Nationals to New Orleans and the Southern Yacht Club (Fleet 7).  We look forward to seeing everyone there next October.

Rules Vote Results

Apologies for the delayed posting of the rules votes that were due Oct 1.  The results are as follows:

1) Stuart Rib Rule passed by a margin of 92% in favor 8% opposed

2) Prohibition of Digital Compass failed by a margin of 67% against to 33% in favor.  Therefore the current rules regarding digital compasses as published in the current rulebook and technical committee interpretation remains in force.

Welcome to our newest Fleet

Fleet 51, a centerboard fleet, is forming with plans to sail on Lewis Bay off West Yarmouth, MA. The CB version of the Rhodes highlights the boat's versatility when sailing in shoal draft waters. 

The initial members of the fleet, Michael Spillane, Matthew Thompson and John Palmer, are looking forward to building the fleet and a racing program. For additional information and to join the fleet, please contact Michael Spillane at mjspillane at yahoo dot com.
